The tetrapods are around twice as high as a car.
I took a few photographs on wide angle and then zoomed in to get rid of the cars and long grass. A man and a woman walked along the sea wall in the distance and while I waited for them to get out of the way, I noticed how small and clear they looked on camera, then took the shot when they walked back.
I’m an unwilling landscape photographer, and while I waited for the lady to appear, I had time to think about my photography, not only lighting, composition and the point and shoot camera in my hand, but the photographs that I would like to take, and for a moment, almost didn’t press the button.
Great photography on your blog! Makes me want to travel to Japan even more :) I think this photo is my favorite. Really powerful imagery.

Those are really concrete monsters. But I guess they fill their function.
When I read your story about waiting for the right time to take the shot I get small glimpses about what differs me – the happy amateur – from a pro.

@Nancy. Thanks, it is one of my favorites too.
Wonderfull, I love this picture. good work – black/white is really powerful. Regards from Cologne, Dirk Baumbach
the size contrast is great, and the subjects are well chosen, b&w gives power to the texture of this photo so the combination is perfect… bravo!!!
Great perspective, really makes you think about how small we are in such a giant world!
